The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for Projects Directorate (PJ) - Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO) - Digital Infrastructure Division (DIGIINFRA), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

Join the European Investment Bank as a trainee and contribute to shaping Europe’s digital future. This traineeship offers you a unique opportunity to deepen strategic and technical insight into emerging EU legislation impacting digital infrastructure and cybersecurity. Beyond reviewing key proposals related to topics such as digital networks, cybersecurity, cloud and AI, you will evaluate the current state of European digital infrastructures, identify compliance gaps, and analyse investment needs to align with emerging regulatory requirements. Your work will contribute to actionable insights that support the EIB's role in financing secure and future-proof digital ecosystems, making this role ideal for those eager to combine policy analysis with practical impact.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze EU legislative developments, focusing on digital networks, cybersecurity, cloud and AI.
  • Assess European digital infrastructures to identify compliance gaps and vulnerabilities.
  • Estimate investment needs, timelines, and operational challenges for regulatory alignment.
  • Prepare briefings and impact assessments that combine technical and strategic insights.
  • Contribute to internal discussions and knowledge-sharing on digital regulation and infrastructure readiness.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University Degree in Engineering (e.g. Telecommunications, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering), Business, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Understanding of EU regulatory frameworks and digital infrastructure standards would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information to non-technical audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with data analysis or modelling tools is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages is an asset.
