About the Role

Join our client’s DevOps team as a Senior FullStack Java/Angular Developer, driving the next generation of digital solutions for the port community. This freelance opportunity places you at the heart of innovation, where your expertise will directly shape mission-critical applications that keep one of Europe’s most vital logistics hubs moving.

As a Senior FullStack Developer, you will architect and deliver robust, scalable applications that empower the port community, streamline operations, and enable real-time decision-making. Your work will have a direct impact on efficiency, safety, and the digital transformation of a sector that never sleeps.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing, building, and maintaining state-of-the-art applications using Java and Angular within a DevOps environment
• Developing, scripting, and integrating across a modern stack: Java 8/11+, Angular, Hibernate, SOAP and REST, Spring Boot, Oracle DB, Kafka, MQTT
• Integrating with Java backends using JSON REST APIs
• Setting up test environments, creating test scenarios, and executing comprehensive testing (including end-to-end automation)
• Leading and coaching development teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
• Participating in 24/7 support and on-call rotations to ensure application reliability
• Championing Agile and DevOps best practices in a multidisciplinary team
• Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions in a 24x7 operational context

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 7 years of demonstrable experience with Java (8/11 and later), Spring, and Kafka
• Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience with Angular (front-end), including HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Strong experience with Hibernate, SOAP, REST, Oracle DB, MQTT
• Hands-on experience with Cypress for testing, Docker for containerization, and Flyway for database migrations
• Proficiency with Grafana and Kibana for monitoring and visualization
• Solid experience with Maven, Jenkins, GIT, and Gitlab for CI/CD and version control
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Demonstrable experience leading development teams and coaching developers
• Expertise in Agile development methodologies, with the ability to take a leading role
• Experience with JSON, REST, and XML integration
• Experience developing, testing, and deploying business applications in a 24x7 environment
• Knowledge of nautical procedures and port information systems is a strong plus

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is mandatory
• Professional communication skills in English

Other Requirements

• Freelance position: 12-month contract, with potential for extension
• Location: Antwerp, Belgium (hybrid/remote work possible)
• Full-time commitment (100%)
• Assignment under Framework Contract 2022 - 2027
• Estimated 1760 hours over the contract period
• Candidate selection based on 50% quality, 50% price
