About Us

At Hypersoniq, our mission is to improve industrial wastewater treatment through data-driven optimisation and intelligent automation. Supported by KWR Water Research Institute and TU Delft, we develop advanced software that transforms existing process data into actionable insights. Our flagship product, INTANGIBLE, is a Smart Digital Operator that uses AI to optimise wastewater treatment plants - reducing costs and environmental impact. We are growing rapidly, with our first industrial pilots successfully completed and commercial rollouts planned with major industrial customers.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated backend developer to join our core development team. You will be responsible for building and maintaining SQL databases, developing API systems, building scalable data pipelines, and managing integrations that power our AI-driven optimisation platform INTANGIBLE. You will work closely with our team of data scientists, DevOps and front-end developers to turn research into production-ready solutions that run reliably in industrial environments. Experience in wastewater or process industries is a plus, but not required, we value engineering excellence, curiosity, and a passion for clean technology.

What You’ll Do

• Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines for data models
• Develop and manage backend systems and APIs to support our web-based platform
• Create scalable and multitenancy database structures and writing efficient queries
• Ensure data quality, security, reliability, and scalability across multiple industrial sources
• Collaborate with data scientists to deploy and monitor machine learning models
• Maintain and improve a multitenancy backend
• (Optional) Contribute to frontend development and integration with the user interface
• Work closely with the product and research teams to deliver reliable, production-grade solutions

Your Profile

• 2+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Backend Developer, or similar role
• Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Pandas, SQLAlchemy) and experience with databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
• Affinity with data pipeline tools (e.g  Kafka, Spark/PySpark, Dagster)
• Comfortable with Docker, modern CI/CD workflows and working with GitHub repositories
• Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance standards (e.g. ISO 27001, GDPR)
• (Bonus) Familiarity with back-end services such as Keycloak and NGINX
• (Bonus) Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar)
• Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus)
• You enjoy working in a small, high-impact team and contributing to real-world sustainability challenges
• (Bonus) Knowledge of and experience in DevOps and infrastructure
