Web Developer Intern (Unpaid) — Babylon
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Commitment: 3 - 6 months (flexible for term dates)
Build the web that helps newcomers feel at home.
Babylon is a multicultural media and community platform for people living in a new country. We publish practical guides for 16 countries, run an online radio, and host events that help people integrate faster. We’re scaling fast—and we’re looking for a Web Developer Intern who wants to ship meaningful features to production, not just watch from the sidelines.
What you’ll work on
- Next.js app: Build responsive pages and components (React, TypeScript, Tailwind, shadcn/ui), improve routing, and tighten Core Web Vitals.
- Headless WordPress: Consume WP REST/GraphQL to power content in our Next.js front end, preserve internal links, and maintain Rank Math SEO scores.
- Firebase integration: Auth, Firestore, Functions, and secure client/server data flows.
- Internationalization & GEO content: Multi-country, multi-language structures with clean URL strategies and schema markup.
- DevOps-lite: Vercel deploys, basic Cloudflare/CDN tasks, error monitoring, and logging.
- AI-assisted workflow: Use our ChatGPT Teams + Agent workflows for content ops, QA checks, link hygiene, and PR review prompts.
Our stack
- Front end: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, shadcn/ui
- CMS: WordPress (headless)
- Data & Auth: Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions)
- Infra/Deploy: Vercel, Cloudflare (and some legacy Contabo)
- Collab: GitHub, Jira, Figma
- AI: ChatGPT Teams with agent workflows for Web Dev
You’ll be great at this if you
- Know modern React fundamentals and can write clean TypeScript.
- Have basic experience with Next.js (app router, data fetching) and Tailwind.
- Can fetch from APIs (REST/GraphQL) and manage async state without chaos.
- Care about UX details: accessibility, keyboard nav, responsive layout.
- Like measuring impact: Core Web Vitals, GA4 events, Lighthouse.
- Communicate clearly in PRs and enjoy collaborative reviews.
Nice to have
- WordPress headless experience
- Firebase experience (Auth rules, Firestore indexes, Functions)
- Basic schema.org and JSON-LD
- Familiarity with Vercel/Cloudflare and simple CI
What you’ll get
- Real production commits with your name on them (and live URLs for your portfolio).
- AI-powered workflow training (ChatGPT Teams + agents) you can reuse anywhere.
- Career support: tailored reference letter, LinkedIn recommendations, and interview prep.
This is an unpaid, learning-focused internship designed for students or recent grads seeking experience. Academic credit available if your institution supports it.
