Machine Learning Engineer – Financial Crime Discovery

Location: Hybrid, South Holland

Type: Permanent

Industry: Fintech / Financial Crime Prevention

About the Role

We’re supporting a high-growth technology company in the payments space as they expand their work in fraud detection and AML innovation. The organisation is building new tools to help financial institutions better identify suspicious activity, streamline risk processes, and keep customers safe.

To support this, they’re forming a specialist Discovery team focused on exploring new ideas, testing emerging techniques, and turning promising concepts into working prototypes. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with ambiguity, experimenting with data, and building practical ML solutions that can evolve into production systems.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Investigating patterns in financial and behavioural data to uncover risks
  • Creating experimental models and running rapid evaluations to test new approaches
  • Building end-to-end data pipelines to support model training, validation and deployment
  • Applying modern MLOps practices to automate workflows and improve reliability
  • Using explainability tools to help stakeholders understand model behaviour
  • Contributing to early-stage product ideas and helping guide technical direction
  • Collaborating with engineering, product and data teams to refine and scale promising concepts

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong hands-on experience developing machine learning systems
  • Practical knowledge of frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or similar
  • Familiarity with distributed processing tools (Spark or equivalent)
  • Confidence designing automated pipelines and working with CI/CD for ML
  • Good understanding of cloud environments (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-code workflows
  • Experience handling large or sensitive datasets responsibly
  • Background in Fraud, AML, risk modelling or transaction monitoring (essential)
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to move from idea to prototype quickly
  • Bonus: experience working with prompt engineering or LLM-driven tooling

What You’ll Get

  • A role that blends research, engineering and product influence
  • The chance to help shape next-generation financial crime solutions from the ground up
  • A supportive, engineering-focused culture with space for experimentation
  • Market leading salary and benefits package
  • Hybrid working, one day a week in office

Applicants must have the right to live and work in the Netherlands, unfortunately candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be considered at this stage.
