As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be part of the team owning the development of scalable, accessible and performant web interfaces to deliver intuitive user experiences that align with KN’s brand and business goals. You will lead the backend architectural decisions and ensure long-term maintainability of the systems. This role is critical for maintaining and evolving the backend and middleware systems that power KN’s global websites and digital platforms. You will work closely with frontend developers, DevOps engineers and QA experts to deliver scalable, secure and high-performing solutions.

How you create impact
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and middleware components for KN’s global web platforms.
- Ensure quality through automated testing (unit, integration, UI, performance).
- Design and optimize database models and queries, ensuring efficient performance and scalability for high-traffic environments.
- Follow clean code practices and development standards while actively participating in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proactively improve the codebase: refactor for simplicity, performance, and maintainability on a continuous basis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (PO, Frontend, DevOps, QA) to ensure seamless integration and deployment.
- Implement best practices for security, data integrity, and API design.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
- 5+ years of experience in backend development, preferably in enterprise-scale environments.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Kotlin and RESTful API development.
- Experience with middleware technologies and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (GitLab, Bitbucket).
- Understanding of security best practices and performance optimisation.
- Nice to have experience with CMS platforms (StoryBlok) and knowledge of microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
- Exposure to observability tools and monitoring frameworks.
