As a Staff Software Engineer in the E2E Service Journeys Chapter within our dynamic Everyday Banking division, you’ll be at the forefront of work that truly matters—engineering the future of how millions of customers interact with the CommBank app every single day. You’ll tackle complex, large-scale challenges by building robust, high-performance APIs and elegant .NET backend solutions, architecting microservices that power seamless, secure and intelligent banking experiences.

Strategically embedded within the business, you’ll dive deep into real customer pain points and shape how technology, automation and AI can transform the way payments are processed across Australia. As the backend SME, you’ll influence innovative greenfield initiatives and critical BAU enhancements alike that will help millions of customers have amazing digital wallet and payment experiences.

This is your opportunity to engineer with purpose, innovate at scale, and deliver customer-first experiences that redefine digital banking.

Our work blends cutting-edge technology, automation and modern engineering practices to deliver meaningful, customer-focused outcomes.

We’re a team that thrives on innovation, exploring how AI and next-generation tech can accelerate our roadmap and transform how customers interact with banking. Here, Staff Software Engineers play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence, influencing architecture and building intelligent, future-ready solutions that stand out in Australia’s most-used banking app.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Lead the design and development of scalable, secure backend APIs in .NET/.NET Core, with a strong focus on high-quality enterprise integrations and reliable downstream services. You’ll be the technical backbone ensuring our platforms run smoothly at scale.
  • Play a major role in shaping feature strategy and solution direction, partnering across multiple squads to align architecture, dependencies, and delivery plans. Your voice will influence how we build now and into the future.
  • Bring strong architecture and solution design expertise to simplify complex problems and define clear, long-term platform patterns. You’ll help create elegant, resilient systems that scale with customer needs.
  • Work primarily as a backend engineer while jumping into front-end (React/Next.js) when needed to ensure seamless customer flows. You'll help create end-to-end solutions that feel cohesive and intuitive
  • Build new digital capabilities for the CommBank app, including tokenisation, Apple/Google Pay, Click to Pay and more. Your work will directly power experiences used by millions daily.
  • Drive the safe, practical adoption of AI-powered engineering tools to increase quality, speed, and automation. You’ll mentor engineers, uplift the chapter, and help shape modern engineering practices across the team.
