A bit about the role...


The role of the Network Operations Engineer involves working as part of a team to provide network infrastructure support for several large clients and multiple smaller locations. The primary responsibility is to conduct onsite post-deployment surveys and prepare associated reports. Additionally, the role requires participation in delivering training courses and creating training materials for the broader engineering workforce.


Responsibilities

  • Identify poor Wi-Fi design practices and provide appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Create detailed and professional Wi-Fi survey documentation tailored for a technical audience.
  • Maintain close contact with customers to ensure project deliverables are met and expectations are managed.
  • Manage communication with customers to address and resolve complex technical issues effectively.
  • Develop and follow through on network and security architecture projects and solutions.
  • Ensure SLA requirements and customer satisfaction metrics are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Create and maintain internal technical documentation for the local team and wider engineering teams.
  • Deliver technical training sessions to enhance team capabilities.
  • Conduct network health checks (both wired and wireless) and prepare detailed recommendation reports.
  • Configure network devices either via Aruba Central or directly on the device, based on provided requirements.
  • Perform passive or active wireless surveys to assess and optimize network performance.
  • Own and manage risks while ensuring timely escalation of issues when necessary.
  • Adhere to strict policies and processes related to security and data protection.
  • Follow the escalation process and ensure that any issues are appropriately communicated to both internal and customer management teams.
  • Drive value-added service enhancements for HPE through innovation and process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues across all networking infrastructure.


Position requirements


  • Aruba/HPE Network accreditation at a minimum Professional level.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, knowledge, and understanding of Wi-Fi technologies.
  • Comfortable working with Aruba ClearPass and Central products.
  • Proven extensive networking background with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to simplify technical details for various audiences.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced, structured environment to meet tight deadlines.
  • Confident and collaborative working style, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Proactive approach to work activities and a commitment to supporting colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and react to situations with a sense of urgency and take ownership of problems.
  • Proficient in creating Wi-Fi designs for unique and challenging environments.
  • Skilled in conducting comprehensive Ekahau site surveys (active, passive, and predictive) to assess and optimize wireless network performance.
  • Capable of analyzing survey data and generating detailed reports, including heatmaps and recommendations for wireless coverage, capacity, and interference mitigation.


Desirable skills


  • Network Management: HPE IMC and Solarwinds
  • ITIL Service Management Foundation
  • Experience of IT incident management
  • Knowledge of multiple vendors equipment is desirable
  • Operational delivery support & implementation of new network support services for large UK based clients
  • Fluke & other cable test equipment
  • Certifications such as CWNA, CWDP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with other wireless survey tools (e.g., AirMagnet or Hamina) is a benefit
