About the Role
We are seeking a Network Specialist for a high-impact, freelance mission with our client in Brussels. This is a 12-month, full-time opportunity for a builder ready to shape, secure, and optimize critical network infrastructure in a hybrid work environment. Your expertise will directly influence the performance, security, and evolution of essential information systems.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, implementing, maintaining, and securing network infrastructures to ensure optimal system availability and performance
- Administering and operating LAN/WAN networks, including advanced troubleshooting and incident resolution (Level 2/3)
- Driving projects to evolve and optimize network and datacenter infrastructure
- Managing and maintaining network equipment: switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers
- Configuring and managing routing, switching, and network protocols (TCP/IP, LAN, WAN)
- Implementing and monitoring network security policies (access control, segmentation, monitoring)
- Ensuring quality of service (QoS) and high availability of network services
- Documenting configurations, procedures, and network architectures
- Collaborating closely with system, security, and application teams
- Participating in the design and evolution of network architectures
- Managing datacenter infrastructure and supporting project-based and operational activities
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience (medior level) as a Network Engineer or Network Specialist, with recent hands-on expertise
- Deep knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, LAN, WAN) and technologies
- Strong skills in routing, switching, and network security (firewalls, VPN, authentication)
- Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools
- Ability to work both in project mode and operational support
- Experience in datacenter infrastructure management
- Project management experience and ability to follow up on works and maintenance
- Quality management mindset and attention to service continuity
- Experience with special techniques (HVAC, electricity, etc.) is a plus
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ownership mentality, problem-solving drive, and a passion for building impactful solutions
Technical Skills
- Network protocols: TCP/IP, LAN, WAN
- Routing and switching technologies
- Network security: firewalls, VPN, authentication
- Network monitoring and diagnostic tools
- Datacenter infrastructure management
- Project management (certification is a plus)
- Special techniques (HVAC, electricity, etc.)
Language Proficiency
- French: Native or bilingual proficiency
- English: Limited working proficiency
Other Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience in an academic or university environment is a strong advantage
- Engineering degree required
- Data Center Designer certification is a plus
- Project management certification is a plus
- Hybrid work: 4 days on site, 1 day remote
- Freelance contract, 12 months, with potential for extension
