Your Responsibilities

As the Cyber Security Officer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical support in the operation and administration of the department's vulnerability management solution.
  • Review current and proposed information systems for compliance with the department's obligations and adherence to overall security strategy (including legislation, regulatory, policies, standards, procedures) and provide recommendations for correction of information security issues.
  • Applying effective communication and customer service skills to gather relevant information, analyse issues, and provide accurate and timely responses to enquiries.
  • Review actual and potential security breaches and vulnerabilities and ensure they are promptly and thoroughly investigated, making recommendations for actions and control improvements.
  • Contributing to improving the department's security posture leveraging own experience in working with virtualisation platforms, identity management, enterprise operating systems, SIEM, SOAR, IPS and application firewalls, security frameworks (ISO27001, ACSC E8), server and endpoint protection, email security, threat hunting, cyber risk evaluation, secure software testing techniques, coding, programming and querying languages.
  • Provide technical information in report format, which can be consumed by management and other departmental staff. Maintain a high level of quality in the performance of all duties, adhering to quality assurance expectations, policies and procedures, government and industry standards and best practices, proactively seeking improvements in the way in which work is undertaken. Provide advice and support to other departmental ICT operational teams, regional ICT teams, school representatives and other departmental staff, in relation to information security matters. Maintain currency of knowledge and skills in cyber security practices, technologies and techniques.
