Sanoma Media Finland is the leading Finnish cross-media company and a forerunner in the digital transformation of media. Our brands deliver relevant, inspiring and captivating content across media channels and reach almost every Finn, every week. Our Tech & Data organization is operating at the very heart of the fast-paced media world. We have 150+ experts of IT and data based in different cities in Finland.
We develop and support content creation tools for 750 journalists working for Sanoma Media Finland newspapers (e.g. Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat) and magazines (e.g. MeNaiset, Gloria, ET-lehti). We work with editorial rooms, digital service development teams and other business units.
Common B2C Analytics & Privacy team drives Sanoma’s B2C analytics and privacy operations. We help our business to make smarter decisions, improve customer experience, and boost sales and retention through data and insights. In addition to developing shared solutions some of our analysts work hands-on within business teams.
About The Role
We are looking for a DevOps/MLOps Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team working on shared data capabilities, B2C analytics, and privacy solutions. You'll be working alongside data scientists and analysts who build machine learning models for purchase probability, customer churn prediction, and other B2C use cases.
Our team has strong expertise in data science, statistics, and economics, but we need your help to establish engineering best practices, improve observability, and accelerate our path to production. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact by introducing modern MLOps practices and mentoring a talented team.
What You'll Do
- Establish and coach the team on DevOps/MLOps best practices for data science workflows
- Improve observability and monitoring for production ML models and data pipelines
- Lead the modernization of our data infrastructure (including migration from Redshift to Snowflake)
- Implement proper documentation, version control, and deployment practices
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for ML models and data products
- Bridge the gap between data science experimentation and production operations
- Take an independent, leading approach to identifying and solving operational challenges
In our belief, we find the following characteristics important to succeed in the job:
- Experience: 5+ years of software engineering or DevOps experience, with at least 2+ years working with data platforms or ML systems. This position requires someone who can lead by example and coach others.
- MLOps & Data Engineering: You have experience operationalizing data science work and ML models. You understand the full lifecycle from experimentation to production, including model versioning, monitoring, and deployment.
- Technical Skills: Strong programming skills in Python. Experience with Databricks, data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, or similar), and modern data stack tools. Comfortable with SQL and understanding different database paradigms.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code. Experience with observability tools, monitoring, and logging solutions.
- Best Practices Advocate: You're passionate about software engineering fundamentals: version control (Git/GitHub), documentation, testing, code review, and CI/CD. You can evangelize these practices effectively.
- Coaching Mindset: You're approachable and enjoy helping others grow. You can communicate complex technical concepts clearly and create a low-threshold environment for asking questions. You lead through influence and collaboration.
- Language: Professional proficiency in Finnish is required, as you'll be working closely with the local team.
- Work Setup: We practice hybrid work. You'll be expected to be in the office a few times per week (exact frequency depends on team needs).
- Languages: Python, TypeScript
- Data Platforms: Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift
- Version Control: GitHub
- Cloud: AWS (primarily)
