About the Role

Green Light is seeking an experienced Kubernetes Engineer to support a Digital Transformation Program as part of a large, long-term modernisation initiative.

This role sits within a multi-year Defence program, with an initial 12-month assignment and strong potential for extension. You will work on secure, enterprise-scale Kubernetes platforms, supporting containerised workloads, platform stability, and ongoing enhancement across Defence environments.

The role requires strong Kubernetes expertise, experience in secure/government settings, and the ability to operate within structured delivery frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate, and support Kubernetes platforms in secure enterprise environments.
• Support containerised application deployments, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Implement and maintain high availability, resilience, and scalability across Kubernetes clusters.
• Troubleshoot complex platform, networking, and performance issues within Kubernetes environments.
• Work closely with DevOps, cloud, infrastructure, and security teams to support platform integrations.
• Apply security best practices aligned with Defence and government standards.
• Contribute to platform automation, monitoring, logging, and operational documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across container platforms.

Requirements

• 7–10 years’ experience in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps engineering roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes in enterprise or government environments.
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, container runtimes).
• Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and storage concepts.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex environments.
• Australian Citizenship with active NV1 security clearance.
• Must be eligible and willing to progress to NV2 clearance.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting Defence or government digital transformation programs.
• Exposure to cloud and hybrid platforms (AWS, Azure, private cloud).
• Knowledge of security hardening, compliance frameworks, and secure-by-design principles.
• Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, or similar).
• Experience operating Kubernetes in restricted or air-gapped environments.
