Network Engineer | 170k Bonus | Hybrid 2 days a week in Manhattan
What you'll get
Work with cutting-edge network hardware and ultra-low-latency tech
High autonomy, high visibility, and direct collaboration with trading leadership
Competitive compensation packages are typical of NYC financial engineering teams
What You’ll Do
- Architect and optimize low-latency network topologies for high-frequency and algorithmic trading workloads
- Engineer deterministic, high-performance connectivity between exchanges, colocation data centers, and trading systems
- Tune routing at an expert level using BGP, OSPF, multicast, and custom latency-optimized configurations
- Reduce hop count, jitter, and microburst issues through selective hardware choices, tuning, buffer management, and NIC optimization
- Support low-latency hardware: Arista, Cisco Nexus, Juniper QFX, Exablaze, Solarflare/Mellanox
- Improve multicast distribution performance for market data feeds
- Lead L3 escalations for complex routing, packet flow, microburst, and throughput issues
- Implement circuit upgrades (10/40/100G) and optimize cross-connects inside colo facilities
- Collaborate with trading teams to benchmark performance and shave microseconds off critical paths
- Use packet capture tools (Corvil/Viavi, ExaNIC, Scapy, tcpdump) for forensic and performance tuning analysis
- Develop automation for deployment, monitoring, and configuration using Python, Ansible, Go, or similar
- Manage relationships with Tier 1 carriers, dark fiber providers, and exchange connectivity teams
- Ensure fault-tolerance and rapid failover for trading-critical infrastructure
What We’re Looking For
- 7–12+ years of deep hands-on network engineering experience
- Strong background in financial services, trading, or exchange/colo networking
- Expert-level understanding of:
- Low-latency switching (Arista 7150/7280, Juniper QFX, Cisco Nexus)
- Routing protocols optimized for deterministic behavior
- Multicast market data distribution (PIM-SM, IGMP, UDP tuning)
- Layer 1/Layer 0 connectivity (DWDM, dark fiber, cross-connects)
- Experience with colo environments like Equinix, NY4/NY5, CH2, LD4
- Hands-on experience with:
- Packet capture / real-time performance tools (Corvil, Exablaze, Solarflare, Novaflow)
- Network jitter/burst mitigation
- Latency benchmarking and analytics
- Strong scripting/automation: Python, Ansible, or Go
- Financial market infrastructure experience strongly preferred
- Certifications (nice to have): CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, Arista ACE, NSE 7/8
