Junior Software Engineer (PHP / Laravel)
York – Hybrid (3 days on-site)
Job Overview
My client is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Software Engineer to join their growing development team. This role is ideal for someone at the early stages of their career who is passionate about software development and eager to build their skills in PHP and Laravel.
You’ll be working alongside experienced developers, gaining hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle while contributing to real-world projects. Full support, mentorship, and opportunities to learn are a core part of this role.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and improvement of web applications using PHP and Laravel
- Work closely with senior developers and the wider team to understand requirements and implement solutions
- Write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code following best practices
- Support with testing, debugging, and resolving issues
- Learn and apply new technologies, tools, and frameworks as part of your development
- Take part in team meetings, sprint planning, and collaborative problem-solving
Requirements
- A genuine interest in software development and a strong desire to learn and progress as an engineer
- Some hands-on experience with PHP and/or Laravel (through education, personal projects, bootcamps, or placements)
- Basic understanding of databases (e.g. MySQL) and how web applications work
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git is beneficial
- A positive attitude, strong problem-solving mindset, and willingness to ask questions
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
- A degree in Computer Science or a related subject is beneficial but not required
