Even though the role is backend-heavy, we value a full-stack mindset >> you should be comfortable touching the frontend to ship complete features.

This role is also a springboard. At Automatify, we view backend engineering as the necessary precursor to AI Engineering. You will be able to further work on AI Agentic projects in Automatify, leveraging your strong background to build tools and MCP servers that empower AI Agents, or custom applications that empower users to interact and work effectively with AI Agents.

What you’ll do:

• Architect and deploy highly scalable backend logic using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Node.js.
• Design asynchronous workflows and decoupled integrations using event buses (e.g., AWS EventBridge, SNS/SQS) to ensure system resilience.
• Break down complex business logic into maintainable, independent microservices. Ensure proper communication patterns between services.
• Build robust REST APIs using Express.js that serve as the gateway to our business logic.
• Champion CI/CD practices for serverless deployments.
• Maintain rigorous Interface Design Documents (IDDs) and OpenAPI standards, ensuring that AI agents, integrations and automations interact predictably with the internal ERP and business systems.
• Collaborate on frontend implementation when necessary, ensuring the backend serves the UI efficiently.
• Work closely with ERP specialists and business solutions teams to ensure the technical architecture supports critical business processes.
• As you settle in, you will explore AI Agent integration and extension of capabilities, using serverless functions, MCP server implementation and custom APIs.

Who you are:

• You have extensive experience in backend development and a proven track record of implementing RESTful APIs using Node.js.
• You are proficient in the development of microservices or serverless functions. You understand cold-starts, triggers, bindings and event-driven architectures.
• You have a deep understanding of REST API architecture, security and versioning. You are skilled in using OpenAPI/Swagger to design and document these interfaces.
• You are proficient in Git, comfortable with branching strategies, and thrive in collaborative development workflows.
• You have a DevOps mindset, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Bonus points if you have experience with ERP systems and enterprise integration patterns.
• Fluent in English, with German skills as a plus.
