Senior Python Engineer

For one of our technology-driven clients in the energy trading & operations domain, we’re looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer / Tech Lead to help build a new mission-critical platform for short-term trading and asset scheduling.

This is a hands-on engineering role with technical leadership — you will set direction, design the architecture, and build the platform together with the team.

What you’ll do

• Take the technical lead in building a new asset dispatching / scheduling platform for short-term trading
• Design and develop Python-based services that optimize a diverse energy asset portfolio (e.g., batteries, wind/solar, heat assets, gas turbines)
• Lead architecture decisions for scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Raise the bar on code quality, testing, and engineering standards
• Coach and mentor developers in the team and help grow technical maturity
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders across trading, operations, and product
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from design to production
• Ensure production systems are secure, performant, and operationally robust

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years experience as a Software Engineer
• Proven Python expertise in production environments
• Experience building mission-critical / high-availability platforms
• Strong understanding of cloud engineering, containerization, and microservices
• Experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps or similar)
• Able to translate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Comfortable owning architecture decisions and driving delivery
• Based in the Netherlands and fluent in English

Bonus points for

• Experience with mathematical optimization (Gurobi is a strong plus)
• Domain knowledge in trading / energy markets / scheduling models
• Experience in data engineering or data science
• Exposure to frontend frameworks (e.g., Vue.js)
• Familiarity with .NET / C#
