If so, this Associate Scientist role would be a great opportunity to consider.We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled Associate Scientist to join the Global Process Engineering Unit team within GSK Technical Research and Development located in Rixensart, Belgium. The mission of the Technical Research and Development group is to deliver and transfer stable vaccine formulations (including recombinant proteins, mRNA, live attenuated viruses etc...) and robust processes (fill and finish) to the clinical and manufacturing sites within GSK Vaccines network and CDMOs.
In this position, you will be involved in drug product development studies where you will conduct experiments and interpret results with a specific focus on secondary operations (Mixing, Filling, Filtration and Drying). You will be involved in the daily organization of the laboratory and operate on several equipment. The Global Process Engineering Team in Rixensart has a large expertise in filling, and drying technologies thus making important contributions to the Technical Research and Development department in support of Drug product development programs. Your responsibilities:
- Participate to the day-to-day activities in the laboratory by operating the equipment, planning and organizing the operations, detect equipment malfunction and support the resolution of the issues.
- Conduct experiments, perform analytical test, edit reports and participate to the understanding construction and contribution to secondary operations and process development for different vaccines candidates (including mRNA).
- Master the equipment and process and contribute to the design of innovative experiments.
- Practical and theoretical experience to conduct late stage operations (Mixing, Filtration, Filling) is an asset.
- Knowledge in lyophilisation operations is a plus.
- Execute specific development projects in collaboration with the related platform staff, following the quality by design framework.
- Participate to scientific/technical decisions/recommendations based on a balance of data, analysis, experience and fundamental science.
- Follow and under supervision, train, oversee platform staff on equipment operations, data analysis, and other project-related work.
- Solve under supervision complex problems through collaborations with others, taking a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Prepare and present scientific data within Technical R&D / Technical Development team or in Technical taskforce.
- Author under supervision technical protocols and reports in support of various project development stages.
- Participate to product transfer for new products and give guidance to the other team members.
- Evaluate new mixing/filling/filtration or process analytical technologies for parenteral products, participate to the building of the innovation vision inside the TRD for the Global Process Engineering platform.
- Conduct and participates to experimental evaluation of this type of new technology and give recommendations.
- Utilize technical process knowledge to meet regulatory requirements appropriate for stage of development.
- When possible participate to collaborations with external companies or academia to pursue applied research projects in your field or outside your field of expertise.
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Bachelor in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Life Sciences or equivalent acquired through professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience in late stage operations (Mixing, Filtration, Filling) is an asset.
- Knowledge of Scientific and Operational Excellence (e.g. e-lab notebook, batch records) is an asset.
- Knowledge of Quality by Design (application of Design of experiments) is an asset.
- Good understanding of biopharm / vaccine development process.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with different departments and levels of the organization.
- Able to work in a matrix environment.
- Fluent in spoken and written French (English is a plus).
- Knowledge and previous hands-on laboratory work in product development is an asset.
- Proactive.
- Team spirit.
- Open-minded, collaborative approach and customer focus.
- IT tools oriented Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP
