Machine Learning Engineer

Salt is currently hiring for one of our clients in the Amsterdam area a Machine Learning Specialist.

This role is for freelance(kvk/zzp) and is paying between 110 and 115 euros an hour.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to build and scale customer-facing Generative AI applications. You will work on agentic, ML-powered solutions such as conversational agents and intelligent assistants, applying state-of-the-art techniques in LLMs, recommendation systems, and multimodal ML.

What You’ll Do

• Research, design, train, and evaluate ML and GenAI models (LLMs, NLP, CV)
• Drive experimentation and define success metrics for production systems
• Build clean, scalable, and reusable ML frameworks
• Analyze data and model performance to guide iteration and improvement
• Partner with ML engineers to meet latency, throughput, and deployment requirements
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into ML solutions

What You Bring

• Strong expertise in Machine Learning, with experience in NLP, CV, and Generative AI
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end ML solutions at scale
• MSc + 3 years or PhD + 2 years of relevant experience in a quantitative field
• Proficiency in Python; experience with Spark, SQL, Kafka, or similar tools is a plus
• Experience working with large datasets, experimentation, and production ML systems
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

• Publications, patents, or open-source contributions
• Experience with agent-based architectures or multimodal models
• Experience mentoring or leading technical initiatives
