Founding Research Engineer – AI × Biology
Location: Dublin (preferred) | Hybrid / Remote (EU/UK)
We’re building a biological foundation model from the ground up and are looking for a Founding Research Engineer to own model development end-to-end — from pre-training and architecture decisions through to scaling and iteration.
You’ll work closely with a bioinformatics team who provide biological guidance, evaluation frameworks, and curated datasets. Your job is to turn that guidance into models that actually learn the right biological signal.
What you’ll do
- Design and train large-scale models on biological data (single-cell, multi-omics, sequences)
- Own pre-training pipelines, objectives, and evaluation
- Make architectural decisions and iterate quickly
- Translate biological feedback into better representations
What we’re looking for
- Strong ML background with hands-on model building experience
- Exposure to biology, bioinformatics, or noisy real-world data (industry or academia)
- Experience with transformers, representation learning, or graph models
- Comfortable owning problems end-to-end in an early-stage environment
- Pragmatic, low-ego, and curious about biology
Why this role
- Founding-level ownership and technical influence
- Work on first-principles AI for biology (not a narrow point solution)
- Small, high-calibre team
- Competitive compensation + meaningful equity
If you’ve made ML work outside of clean benchmarks — and want to apply it to biology — we’d like to talk.
