Data Engineer

Mission Context

The role sits within a large-scale data environment undergoing modernisation. The team manages high‑volume batch processing, complex ETL pipelines, and backend services supporting critical business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise ETL pipelines using enterprise-grade ETL tooling.
• Work with large-scale databases (20TB+), including columnar and relational systems.
• Develop backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, Maven, and related frameworks.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Manage releases, enforce coding standards, and ensure high code quality.
• Optimise batch processing, scheduling, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Troubleshoot complex data issues and drive continuous process improvements.
• Operate within a cross-functional, English-speaking team in a regulated industry environment.

Language Requirements

• English: Fluent
• Dutch/French: Optional

Education

• Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics).
• Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Equivalent professional experience in data-intensive roles is also accepted.

Experience Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or ETL development.

Technical Skills (Mandatory)

• Strong expertise in enterprise ETL tools (e.g., Informatica PowerCenter).
• Experience with large-scale databases (Oracle, SybaseIQ, or similar).
• Advanced SQL (complex queries, optimisation).
• Solid Java development skills (Java, Spring Boot, Maven).
• Experience with batch scheduling, dependency management, and performance tuning.

Technical Skills (Preferred)

• Automation experience.
• Exposure to CI/CD or DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of data governance or regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR).
• Experience in banking or insurance environments.
