Role Overview

This is a remote, part-time role (20 hours per week).

The client builds production-grade document understanding systems that process PDFs, DOCX files, scans, and images across multiple EU languages. Documents often arrive as multi-page packets containing original content, translations, and certifications.

This role is hands-on and focused on building robust pipelines for real-world, messy documents.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Document AI pipelines (rendering, conversion, OCR, parsing fallbacks)
• Implement layout-aware / multimodal models for page role detection and document-type classification
• Extract structured data from tables and forms with confidence and provenance
• Design evaluation, confidence/abstention, and active learning / labeling loops
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams

Requirements

• Shipped production Document AI or unstructured document ML systems
• Strong experience with OCR, layout analysis, and document extraction
• Familiarity with vision-language or layout-aware models
• Experience with multilingual document processing (EU languages, cross-lingual handling)
• Strong Python skills and a production mindset

Nice to Have

• Knowledge graphs or structured representations
• Experience deploying ML systems in production
• Startup or early-stage experience
