Job Title
Mechanical Engineer (Datacenter Operations)
Work Location
Finland
Job Overview
Responsible for the full-lifecycle management of mechanical systems in Finnish data centers, including Cooling system, water supply and drainage, fire mechanical systems and free cooling equipment. Ensure 7x24 safe and efficient operation, optimize energy consumption to align with Finland’s carbon neutrality goals, comply with local and EU regulations, and support overall operational stability.
Core Responsibilities
- Mechanical System O&M: Implement inspection and maintenance plans for mechanical equipment, covering precision air conditioners (CRAC/CRAH), chillers, cooling towers, water pumps, pipeline systems, water supply and drainage equipment, fire mechanical facilities (smoke exhaust fans, fire dampers), gas fire extinguishing systems, etc., and promptly eliminate hazards. Maximize Finland’s low-temperature advantage to optimize free cooling and heat recovery systems, reducing energy consumption and PUE.
- Fault & Emergency Handling: Respond to mechanical faults (precision air conditioner failure, pipeline leakage, etc.) quickly, conduct emergency disposal per Finnish OSH Act and safety standards, and minimize business impact.
- Compliance & Safety Control: Ensure operations comply with Finnish mechanical regulations, EN 50600 series, GDPR and OSH Act. Participate in safety drills (extreme cold, fire, equipment failure) and hidden danger inspections.
- System Optimization: Analyze operation data, optimize HVAC airflow and cooling modes, and participate in energy-saving projects (waste heat reuse, green energy integration, equipment automation upgrading).
- Supplier & Document Management: Cooperate with local suppliers, fire authorities and regulatory bodies, supervise maintenance quality. Maintain standardized technical documents compliant with Finnish and EU requirements.
- Team Collaboration: Provide mechanical technical support to the team, share experience on low-temperature operation technologies, and coordinate with electrical teams for seamless system operation.
Requirements
Education and Major
Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering or related fields; college degree with 5+ years of Finnish data center mechanical O&M experience.
Work Experience
3+ years of mechanical O&M experience (Tier 3/Tier 4 Finnish/Nordic data center preferred), with complete HVAC, free cooling and fire mechanical system O&M experience.
Professional Skills
- Proficient in Finnish data center mechanical systems, including precision air conditioners, chillers, free cooling equipment and fire mechanical systems, familiar with low-temperature operation characteristics.
- Strong mechanical drawing reading ability, skilled in using testing tools (temperature tester, pressure gauge), and experienced in BMS/EMS operation for mechanical systems.
- Well-versed in Finnish and EU mechanical regulations, with experience in energy-saving optimization, free cooling system debugging and waste heat recovery.
Qualifications
Mandatory Finnish Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Operation Certificate; preferred EU-recognized Registered Mechanical Engineer certificate, fire facility operator certificate and manufacturer certifications. Bilingual proficiency in Finnish and English is preferred.
Comprehensive Quality
- Strong safety awareness, able to bear the pressure of 7x24 emergency on-duty and extreme cold weather response.
- Excellent fault-solving and communication skills, adapting to Finnish workplace scenarios.
- Proactive learning ability, keeping up with Nordic mechanical and green energy technology trends.
- Strict work attitude, with standardized document sorting capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Finnish data center mechanical renovation and free cooling/waste heat reuse projects.
- Familiar with modular data center mechanical systems and experience in integrating Finnish green energy (wind power, hydropower).
- Experience in coordinating with Finnish fire authorities and environmental regulatory bodies.
