About the Role
We’re hiring a Business Data Analyst to support a client-facing data governance program. You’ll bridge business needs and technical implementation—profiling data, documenting metadata, shaping data quality rules, producing crisp technical documentation, and fueling data analytics and AI models.
What You’ll Do
- Data profiling and analysis: explore datasets, surface anomalies, completeness/uniqueness stats, and business rule gaps.
- Help build data quality rules: translate business requirements into clear rules, tests, thresholds, and acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate and comunicate with policy, engineering, and security teams throughout the data governance project cycles.
- Create documentation: process flows, SOPs, mappings, data dictionaries, interface specs, and runbooks.
- Train client data stewards: prepare materials, run hands-on sessions, and collect feedback to improve adoption.
- Metadata documentation: capture definitions, owners/stewards, critical data elements, classifications, and lineage notes.
- Track progress and outcomes with simple KPIs and reports (e.g., rule coverage, issue backlog, remediation SLAs).
Requirements
- 2+ years as a Data/Business Analyst on data platforms, governance, or analytics projects.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong analytical skills.
- Solid communication and facilitation; confident in client-facing workshops and training.
- Strong SQL and comfort with profiling tools (e.g., queries, notebooks, or profiler utilities and databases).
- Familiarity with metadata & catalog concepts (business glossary, stewardship, critical data elements).
- Experience with data quality design and testing (e.g., Great Expectations/Soda/Deequ or SQL-based checks).
- Good documentation skills—clear, versioned, and stakeholder-friendly.
- Understanding of privacy/security basics (PII handling, access control) and common governance frameworks.
- (Optional - Plus) Experience with dbt documentation/tests or BI tools (Power BI/Looker/Tableau) for stakeholder reporting.
- (Optional - Plus) Familiarity with cloud based Analytics Data Warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- (Optional - Plus) Exposure to catalogs and governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Purview).
- (Optional - Plus) Basic Python for data exploration and lightweight automation.
