About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer, Backend (Marketplace Experience) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to building and enhancing the discovery platforms that underpin Affirm’s search, deals, and merchant details experiences. Your work will directly impact how shoppers find the right merchants and financing options, making their shopping experience faster, easier, and more intuitive. Collaborating closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support our marketplace functionalities. The ideal candidate is passionate about crafting high-quality code, solving complex problems, and delivering impactful features that align with our business goals. You will operate in a fast-paced environment that values curiosity, ownership, and empathy for our customers, ensuring that our platform remains reliable and innovative.

Qualifications

• Previous work or internship experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin programming languages.
• Familiarity with distributed systems architecture and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong ability to translate simple business scenarios into comprehensive software solutions.
• Experience with writing clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and conducting code reviews.
• Proactive ownership of personal growth, including seeking feedback and continuous improvement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and documentation.
• Ensure the stability and security of systems while balancing speed and quality of delivery.
