Business Systems Analyst (BSA)
Must‑Have Skills
- Proven ability to gather and analyze requirements from multiple stakeholder groups and translate them into well‑structured user stories
- 3–5 years of relevant Business Systems Analyst experience with hands‑on knowledge of web‑based application development and MS SQL databases
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience creating test plans and test scripts, with strong understanding of requirements traceability
- Active Government of Canada Reliability Clearance, with the ability to obtain Level II (Secret) clearance
Nice‑to‑Have Skills
- Experience working in large enterprise or telecommunications environments
- Relevant certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, ITIL, CBRM, Business Analysis certifications, or an MBA
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and delivery models
- Experience with test case execution, management, and defect tracking
Role Background
This is a replacement role for a contractor who departed earlier than planned.
Project & Team Environment
You will join a small, collaborative team supporting existing production systems that require ongoing feature enhancements to support multiple large and complex initiatives. These systems are mature, highly integrated, and have evolved over time. Due to historical team turnover, some institutional knowledge has been lost, and this role will play a key part in rebuilding clarity around requirements and system behavior.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams for requirements gathering and analysis
- Collaborate with Solution Architects and architecture teams to define, document, and manage business and functional requirements
- Translate business needs into clear functional designs and assist in the creation of technical design documentation
- Prepare and maintain functional and technical design specifications in accordance with organizational standards and delivery methodologies
- Perform impact analysis on change requests and support effort estimation activities
- Serve as a trusted technical spokesperson for the project team, effectively communicating with stakeholders at various levels of the organization
- Provide input into test planning, test execution, and validation activities
- Support implementation planning and delivery strategies in partnership with business and technology teams
- Document solutions and provide knowledge transfer to project and operational teams
