AI Engineer (Senior)

Sydney/Melbourne

$150-200k

We are seeking a highly experienced AI Engineer with deep technical expertise and strong design thinking skills to help lead and deliver cutting-edge, practical AI solutions across a range of business use cases, for one of the leading disruptors in the market.

You will be a senior-level AI practitioner who can not only build and implement AI models and systems, but also contribute meaningfully to technical design conversations, mentor other consultants, and help shape best practices for applying AI to real-world application development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-enabled solutions for specific business use cases, ensuring practical and scalable implementations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (front-end, back-end, and data engineering) to integrate AI capabilities into application development workflows.
  • Apply and extend modern AI development tools and frameworks to support high-impact projects.
  • Act as a technical advisor in conversations about AI system architecture, design patterns, and solution trade-offs, not limited to pure coding tasks.
  • Drive innovation in how AI is applied across software engineering projects, including early-stage ideation, prototyping, and production readiness.
  • Mentor and coach other consultants and engineers to elevate AI literacy and upskill team members.
  • Work across both AI engineering and software engineering domains, with a bias toward practical application development and integration.
  • Translate business problems into actionable AI solutions, balancing speed of delivery with maintainability and performance.
  • Stay current on advancements in AI technologies and tools, and help evaluate suitability for internal adoption.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a senior AI engineer or similar role with a strong delivery track record.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, development tools, and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience with both the design and implementation of AI systems in production contexts.
  • Strong coding skills in languages such as Python, with experience applying AI and ML libraries.
  • Ability to engage in solution design discussions and make sound technical recommendations.
  • Experience with software engineering practices, including collaboration with front-end, back-end, and data engineering teams.
  • A mindset geared toward practical, use-case driven AI delivery rather than theoretical research.
  • Strong mentoring, communication, and knowledge-sharing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with modern AI development tooling (e.g., model hubs, generative AI SDKs, LLM APIs, MLOps tooling).
