Team Lead Java Engineer (with LifeRay)

We are seeking a seasoned and technically proficient Java Engineer to take on a Team Lead role and oversee the development of our Liferay Portal. You will manage two mixed engineering teams, working alongside a diverse group of professionals from different vendors to deliver high-quality results within tight constraints.

Responsibilities

• Lead two cross-functional teams (6–8 engineers each) in designing, developing, and maintaining the Liferay Portal
• Build and foster a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous improvement among team members
• Ensure high-quality code through regular code reviews and implementation of best practices
• Coordinate and communicate effectively across stakeholders, including QA, BA, and Management
• Manage the design and implementation of portal solutions using Java, SQL, and React
• Actively contribute to development tasks, including coding and reviewing pull requests, setting the technical direction
• Oversee integration of Liferay with external systems using APIs and related services
• Troubleshoot and manage portal performance, functionality, and integration issues
• Plan, maintain, and optimize SQL database schemas for Liferay while ensuring data security and effective retrieval

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience with Java and related frameworks
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams of more than 5 people
• Competency in React development (1+ years of experience)
• Background in Liferay
• Proficiency in SQL and MS SQL
• Knowledge of Microservices, REST API and design patterns
• Familiarity with delivery methodologies like Waterfall and Scrum
• Showcase of strong communication skills to handle multi-stakeholder projects
• Background in delivery management with a focus on time-sensitive execution
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (B2+ level)

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure
• Background in Spring framework
