Senior/Principal Systems Architect

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Principal Systems Architect to join our team. This role is focused on creating a clean-slate, modular automation architecture for heavy machinery control systems, with strong emphasis on autonomy-readiness, interface contracts, orchestration patterns, and simulation-first development.

You will define the architectural foundation that enables scalable development across teams and supports future autonomous capabilities by design.

We are specifically looking for candidates with a strong background in industrial machinery and mobile equipment environments.

Ideal Experience Comes From Domains Such As

• Mining and tunneling equipment
• Construction and off-road machinery
• Material handling and industrial vehicles
• Forestry, quarrying, or similar heavy-duty machine ecosystems
  
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and drive a clean-slate, modular automation architecture for heavy machinery control systems.
• Define clear module boundaries, ownership domains, and interface contracts for distributed team development.
• Design and validate orchestration patterns (e.g., ROS2-like, DDS, service-based, event-driven).
• Ensure architecture supports autonomy stack integration (perception, localization, planning, control, orchestration).
• Set up and validate simulation-first workflows, including virtual validation and sensor simulation concepts.
• Rapidly prototype representative modules and integration flows to validate architecture and interface behavior.
• Prioritize interface correctness and system-level architectural integrity over production-complete internal module logic in early phases.
• Review and critically validate AI-generated architecture/code proposals for technical correctness and maintainability.
• Mentor internal engineers in system decomposition, abstraction, and architecture-first development.
• Maintain close technical dialogue with senior technical leadership throughout the engagement.
