Senior Java Software Engineer

We are searching for a Senior Java Engineer to join an established, top-tier low-latency algorithmic trading firm in Amsterdam. This is a role for someone who enjoys building high-performance, production-grade systems where software quality and speed genuinely matter and where engineering sits directly at the core of the business.

You’ll work close to traders, quants, and researchers, shipping real-time systems that make and manage decisions at scale, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and clean design.

What you’ll be working on:

Depending on the team, the scope can include:

• Latency-sensitive trading services and strategy components
• Pricing / volatility / modeling tooling (options-style domains)
• Simulation & backtesting frameworks to validate ideas before production
• Market risk & exposure monitoring systems
• Trade reconciliation and post-trade automation
• Data analytics and visualization tools used by trading teams
• Internal developer tooling that speeds up testing, deployment, and iteration

Key responsibilities

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain Java applications used across Trading, Risk, Strategy, and Mid-Office functions
• Take ownership end-to-end: requirements → design → implementation → production support
• Work through internal stakeholder requests, turning ambiguity into clear, shippable solutions
• Write robust, high-performance code with strong testing practices
• Diagnose production issues quickly and improve systems proactively
• Contribute to a fast engineering loop with automation, CI/CD, and daily deployments

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer in production environments
• Strong Java (11+) skills (newer versions a plus)
• Python familiarity preferred (tooling, automation, scripting)
• Comfortable working in Linux
• Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes (or equivalent container/orchestration tools)
• Strong stakeholder communication and able to gather requirements and deliver quickly
• Can handle greenfield work with minimal guidance and own what they build
• Proactive problem solver with strong debugging instincts
• Trading knowledge is not required, curiosity and learning speed are
