I’m Tomas Brimor, Engineering Manager for Team Enrichment & API at Telia Play, and I’m searching for someone ready to grow with us. We’re a supportive, forward-thinking, scrum-sized team building and operating the high-performance metadata platform powering the Telia TV experience for nearly 2 million subscribers across the Nordics. We are the engine behind a metadata catalog that processes nearly half a million events daily, with proven capacity to scale and manage peaks exceeding 2 million events during high-demand periods. What you’ll do:
You will work at the core of our metadata ecosystem to aggregate, normalize, enrich, and deliver metadata efficiently.
- Architect and build a high-performance metadata platform to process and enrich data in near real-time using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot.
- Drive architectural decisions for our metadata platform, ensuring scalability, resilience, and long-term maintainability as our data volume and complexity grow.
- Design and implement event-driven systems using SNS, SQS, and Kinesis to orchestrate near real-time metadata distribution, complemented by high-performance APIs that power the Telia TV experience.
- Ensure the performance and correctness of our high-throughput, low-latency pipelines while maintaining a modern, cloud-native workflow.
- Act as a senior technical voice within the team, challenging design decisions, shaping architectural direction, and raising the overall engineering standard through example, review, and mentorship.
- Partner with backend developers and data specialists to drive innovation across the entire metadata lifecycle, from initial ingestion to final delivery.
- Take full ownership from design and implementation to production operations and continuous improvement, following our “you build it, you run it” philosophy.
We are looking for a proactive team player who takes ownership and thinks beyond code to improve systems as a whole.
- 5+ years of backend development experience with deep expertise in Java/Kotlin and experience designing and operating production systems at scale.
- Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, distributed database design (SQL/NoSQL), cloud-native services (AWS), and infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- Ability to design and maintain data processing pipelines, APIs, system integrations, and secure software development practices.
- Fluency in English and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Data engineering patterns, specifically using Python and DAG-based orchestration.
- Exploring AI-assisted approaches (including LLM-based techniques) to improve metadata normalization and enrichment where they provide measurable value.
- Serverless architecture, leveraging AWS Lambda for high-performance, event-driven processing.

Monthly salary range for this position - 4300-6500 EUR (gross) + annual performance bonuses. Although it may vary depending on your skills and experience.
