Job Title: Data Engineer V
Duration: 6+ Months Contract (Extension Possible)
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 4 days onsite per week)
Role Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Power BI Developer to support a Capital Measurement Reporting Data Modernization initiative within a large financial services environment.
This role focuses on delivering trusted, well-governed, and audit-ready analytics solutions supporting capital reporting, risk metrics, and executive decision-making. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Power BI, advanced data modeling, regulatory reporting environments, and strong storytelling capabilities for senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Capital & Risk Reporting Analytics
• Design and develop Power BI dashboards supporting capital measurement, risk exposure, and finance metrics
• Translate complex datasets into clear, executive-ready visualizations
• Enable drilldowns from summary dashboards to granular data levels
• Support transparency, traceability, and reconciliation requirements
Data Modeling & Modernization
• Build optimized semantic models aligned with modern data platforms
• Apply advanced star schema and enterprise data modeling techniques
• Develop complex DAX measures and calculations
• Use Power Query (M Code) and SQL for data transformation and optimization
ETL & Data Integration
• Partner with data engineering teams to ensure accurate and reconciled data feeds
• Support ingestion from multiple enterprise data sources
• Maintain data lineage and reporting consistency
Power BI Service & Governance
• Manage workspaces, datasets, refresh schedules, and access controls
• Support version control and release management practices
• Produce high-quality documentation for audit and compliance reviews
Automation & Power Platform
• Utilize Power Automate to streamline reporting workflows
• Contribute to Power Platform best practices and adoption
Stakeholder Engagement
• Partner with Risk, Finance, and Technology stakeholders
• Gather requirements and validate deliverables
• Present insights clearly to senior leadership
• Mentor junior developers and promote best practices
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data & Analytics
• 5+ years of advanced Power BI development experience
• Expert-level Power BI Desktop & Service
• Advanced DAX and Power Query (M Code)
• Strong SQL expertise
• Enterprise data modeling (Fact/Dimension modeling)
• Experience with ETL concepts and performance optimization
• Power Automate experience
• Strong documentation and audit-ready reporting experience
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting Capital, Risk, or Regulatory Reporting initiatives
• Background in banking or financial services
• Experience in data modernization programs
• Version control tools (Git, Azure DevOps or similar)
• Python scripting
• Process mapping experience
• MS Power BI certification (PL-300 preferred)
