The opportunity

The focus for the Bank Agile Coach is to support AMP Bank as we continue to embrace and mature Agile ways of working across Run and Change initiatives, as we move into an integrated Scrum model with empowered Product Owners driving the achievement of clear Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).This includes ensuring roles and responsibilities are well understood; scrums are structured for success with empowered Product Owners aligned to clear goals; common work practices are embedded into day‑to‑day operating rhythms that enable resources to flow to work; and the portfolio operates in a transparent manner, providing real‑time visibility of progress, risks, and support required. To achieve this, the Bank Agile Coach will coach and mentor Product Owners, and cross‑functional teams in agile mindsets, behaviours, and practices; develop, implement, and continuously mature agile ways of working; proactively identify areas for improvement or individuals requiring additional support; and foster a fun, inclusive, and performance‑oriented culture.

As AMP Bank continues to mature its ways of working, this role requires a hands‑on, player‑coach approach. The Agile Coach will actively support the effective operation of scrums where needed, including facilitating key ceremonies and planning activities, leading post‑implementation and learning reviews, and directly using agile delivery tools (such as JIRA and Confluence) to model effective practices and standards. This hands‑on involvement is intended to accelerate learning and uplift capability, while enabling teams and leaders to become increasingly self‑sufficient over time. This is not a project delivery role. Instead, the Agile Coach works across approximately six OKR‑aligned, cross‑functional scrum teams to ensure they are set up for success and are effectively applying agile ways of working to deliver meaningful customer and business outcomes. Given the highly visible and people‑centric nature of this role, the Agile Coach will be required to be on‑site a minimum of four days per week.

Description of division and business unit

AMP Bank is a growing retail bank, with a focus on providing retail deposit accounts, residential mortgage products and services and other consumer value add services that support and complement AMP's businesses. The Bank distributes direct to retail customers and through Brokers and Planners. The Bank Transformation business unit is a cross-Bank function that services both the Lending & Everyday Banking and the Bank GO divisions of the Bank. The Bank Transformation function is accountable for delivery of change and is custodian of the practices and operating rhythms for ensuring that transformation execution aligns to business strategy, maximizing the realization of customer and business benefit. The Agile Coach will play a critical role in shaping ways of working within AMP Bank GO, AMP Bank's digital banking platform, as the division scales its product-led, OKR-aligned Agile operating model.

About the role:

The role focuses on shaping the operating model, uplifting product and delivery capability, and enabling consistent, outcome‑focused execution across multiple OKR‑aligned scrums.

1. Agile Operating Model & Ways of Working

  • Shape, evolve, and embed a product‑led, lean‑agile operating model aligned to AMP Bank GO's strategy and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Ensure roles, responsibilities, and decision rights are clearly understood and consistently applied, particularly across Product Owners, delivery teams, and enabling functions.
  • Establish and reinforce common operating rhythms, planning cadences, and governance practices that enable transparency, fast learning, and effective flow of work across Run and Change.
  • Contribute to the definition and ongoing refinement of the target-state ways of working, balancing alignment with flexibility and context.

2. Leadership, Product Owner & Team Coaching

  • Coach Product Owners, and cross‑functional teams in agile mindset, behaviours, and practices, with a strong focus on empowerment, accountability, and outcomes.
  • Uplift Product Owners, strengthening capability in product discovery, prioritisation, backlog management, value articulation, and OKR ownership.
  • Support leaders to shift from activity and output-based management to outcome, flow, and value‑based leadership.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, constructively challenging ways of working that inhibit agility, learning, or customer outcomes.

3. Hands‑on Delivery Support & Tool Adoption

  • Provide practical, hands‑on support where it will accelerate learning, unblock delivery, or model effective agile practices-particularly during periods of change, onboarding, or capability uplift.
  • Facilitate key agile ceremonies and planning activities (e.g. quarterly planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, OKR alignment sessions) as needed, with a clear intent to enable teams and leaders to become self‑sufficient over time.
  • Lead or support post‑implementation reviews (PIRs) and learning reviews, ensuring insights are translated into actionable improvements.
  • Actively use agile tooling (e.g. JIRA and Confluence) to:
    • Create and structure boards, workflows, and artefacts
    • Create and manage work items, epics, and cards where appropriate
    • Model good practice in backlog hygiene, visualisation, and flow
  • Develop, evolve, and use practical tools, templates, and artefacts-demonstrating expected standards rather than only defining them.
  • Balance hands‑on involvement with coaching and enablement, avoiding long‑term dependency while ensuring momentum and quality during transition periods.

4. Team Enablement, Flow & Portfolio Transparency

  • Enable teams to operate as high-performing, outcome‑focused scrums, aligned to clear objectives and empowered to make day‑to‑day delivery decisions.
  • Support teams and leaders to identify and address dependencies, constraints, and bottlenecks impacting flow across multiple scrums.
  • Establish and reinforce transparent portfolio-level visibility, enabling real-time understanding of progress, risks, trade-offs, and support required.
  • Use data and insights (qualitative and quantitative) to guide continuous improvement rather than compliance or reporting for its own sake.

5. Design, Discovery & Learning Practices

  • Lead and support design sprints, discovery activities, and collaborative problem‑solving sessions for priority initiatives.
  • Embed human-centred design, lean experimentation, and fast learning loops into day‑to‑day delivery practices.
  • Ensure strong alignment between discovery, prioritisation, design, and delivery, maintaining a clear line of sight from customer insight to business outcomes.
  • Promote experimentation, learning from failure, and evidence‑based decision making across teams.

6. Continuous Improvement, Capability & Culture

  • Conduct agile maturity and performance assessments, and develop pragmatic uplift plans at team, product, and system levels.
  • Integrate into and align with communities of practice to strengthen agile, product, and design capability across the bank.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, psychological safety, accountability, and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Role‑model agile values and behaviours, contributing to a high‑performance, inclusive, and engaging culture aligned with AMP's purpose and values.
