Backend Developer (Go) – Build the backend behind Sweden’s leading weather service!

At Klart, we build weather products used by hundreds of thousands of people every day. Our mission is simple: help people make better everyday decisions with accurate and accessible weather data.

We’re a small, product-focused engineering team with real ownership of what we build. As part of Schibsted, our platform also powers weather experiences across brands like Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet, reaching millions of users across the Nordics.

We’re now looking for a Backend Developer who wants to build scalable backend systems, work with real-world data, and help evolve the architecture of one of Sweden’s most popular weather services.

What you'll work on

You’ll be working across the core backend systems powering Klart’s products.

Examples of things you might do:

  • Design and build APIs and backend services used by web, mobile, and partner platforms
  • Improve and evolve a cloud-native architecture on AWS
  • Process and serve large volumes of weather and geospatial data
  • Build systems that are fast, reliable, and scalable
  • Take features from idea → prototype → production
  • Improve observability, monitoring, and automated testing
  • Work closely with product and other developers to solve technical challenges

You’ll have real influence on technical decisions, architecture, and product direction.

Tech stack

Our backend is primarily written in Go and runs on AWS using serverless and container-based infrastructure.

Backend

  • Go (Golang)
  • AWS (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, S3)
  • Terraform
  • Docker
  • GitHub Actions
  • Shell scripting

Frontend / Apps

  • Node.js / React
  • Kotlin (Android)
  • Swift (iOS)

We value clean architecture, maintainable code, and pragmatic engineering.

What we're looking for

You’ll likely enjoy this role if you:

  • Have strong backend engineering experience (preferably at least 5-7 years)
  • Have worked with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
  • Are comfortable building and maintaining production APIs
  • Have experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Write clean, maintainable code and care about quality and performance
  • Enjoy solving complex technical problems together with other engineers

Experience with Go, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization is a strong advantage.

Nice to have, but not required:

  • Observability, monitoring, and automated testing
  • GitHub Actions
  • Geospatial data (GeoJSON, OpenStreetMap)
  • Data processing pipelines
  • JavaScript or Python

Some things we've recently built

To give you a sense of what we work on:

  • Integrated Pollenrapporten into the Klart platform
  • Improved the logic behind weather day icons
  • Built infrastructure for historical weather data from SMHI
  • Added location-based discovery for ski resorts and beaches
  • Rebuilt our search using AI-assisted suggestions and autocomplete
  • Migrated our frontend from Nunjucks to modern React, dramatically improving performance
  • Moved analytics to a shared Schibsted platform

Why engineers enjoy working at Klart

Small team, real ownership

You’ll work in a compact team where engineers influence both product and architecture.

Real users

Your work directly impacts millions of people across Swedish media platforms.

Sustainable pace

Flexible hours, hybrid setup (2–3 days/week in our Stockholm office), and 30 days of paid leave.

Engineering culture

Curious, collaborative, and pragmatic. We care about good solutions — not unnecessary complexity.
