Senior Back End Engineer (PHP/Python)

Senior Back End Engineer (PHP and/or Python) | Ed‑Tech Product | AI‑Enabled Platform

Our client is an ed‑tech product company building AI‑powered learning experiences. They are looking for a Senior Back End Engineer to help design and scale the backend systems that support their platform and AI‑driven features.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs using PHP and/or Python
• Support AI‑enabled functionality such as personalisation, recommendations, and analytics
• Take ownership of services from design through to production
• Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and AI teams
• Contribute to technical standards and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with PHP (Laravel/Symfony) and/or Python (Django/FastAPI/Flask)
• Experience designing APIs and working with relational databases (Postgres/MySQL)
• Cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Interest in applied AI within a product environment
