Position: Senior DevOps Engineer

Location: Munich, Germany

Type: Full-time


Position Overview:

The Senior DevOps Engineer with an Operations focus is responsible for the operation and maintenance of IT systems, including troubleshooting and implementing complex measures for system optimization or providing third-level support. The position involves overseeing IT and telecommunication systems, ensuring high availability, and maintaining smooth system operations, especially in an incident management context. The engineer will work within both line functions and projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • System Operation & Maintenance:
  • Ensure the required availability and agreed-upon service levels (e.g., uptime, response time, resolution time, maintenance window).
  • Contribute to system reliability, such as using recovery facilities and maintaining system health.
  • Monitor system data (e.g., logs, performance metrics) and take preventive actions to sustain system operation.
  • Ensure quality is maintained in terms of performance, availability, load, and storage requirements.
  • System Optimization & Troubleshooting:
  • Perform system optimization and troubleshooting activities, developing and implementing corrective actions based on trend analysis.
  • Test and deploy patches, releases, and upgrades to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Handle incident management, specifically resolving 2nd and 3rd level support issues, including VPN solutions.
  • Configuration Management & System Changes:
  • Plan and implement complex system optimization measures, requiring changes in multiple settings and configurations.
  • Regularly create scripts and perform maintenance tasks, such as configuring load balancing and setting up test environments.
  • Ensure that only tested and authorized releases or IT infrastructure are moved into production.
  • Consultation & Customer Support:
  • Advise users on IT system usage, addressing questions and offering guidance on troubleshooting.
  • Service Management:
  • Deliver necessary information related to software, interfaces, and other technical details to service managers.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to service level agreements and provide key metrics for internal and external reporting.
  • Manage third-party vendors to ensure they meet contractual performance obligations.
  • ITIL and Change Management:
  • Work within the Change Advisory Board (CAB) to oversee all changes impacting the IT service, including Release Management and IT Service planning.
  • Create documentation for IT services related to changes, and ensure the scalability of IT services.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a comparable field, or extensive experience in IT system operations.
  • Vocational qualifications or certifications in IT (e.g., ITIL, LPIC-1) are beneficial.
  • Experience:
  • Long-term experience in operating IT systems, including troubleshooting and managing external software and hardware solutions.
  • Proficient in system management, network technologies, and IT security.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Linux and Microsoft systems, scripting, and process management methods.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL processes (Service Transition, Service Operation, and IT@M operations).
  • Experience with various technologies and services such as relational databases, web servers, EAI, and monitoring.
  • Familiar with quality management, test management, and solutions for system optimization (e.g., scripting, EAI technologies).

  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and think strategically.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Decision-making capabilities and the ability to lead teams effectively.


Additional Requirements:

  • Language: Fluency in German (C1 level CEFR) and English (professional proficiency).
  • Willingness to Travel: Travel required for service operations.
  • Remote Work: Hybrid working model with up to 40% remote work.
