The Mission
The NFR Hubs Romania team is an integral part of ING’s Non-Financial Risk domain. The team is responsible for ensuring consistent implementation of NFR frameworks, policies, and procedures, while fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment within the hubs.
The Emerging Tech NFR Expert is part of the Center of Expertise (CoE) Emerging and Disruptive Technology Risk, part of the CRO/NFR domain. The team focuses on identifying, assessing, and managing risks and threats related to emerging and disruptive technologies, ensuring ING remains secure, resilient and compliant in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The role will report hierarchically to the Lead of Information & Technology Risk in Hubs Romania and functionally to Global Lead of ITR Team II located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Your day to day
- Proactively contribute to the identification and assessment of emerging technologies for their risk impact on ING;
- Anticipate new and changing risks, adjusting and developing risk management approaches;
- Analyze security events and incidents related to emerging technologies within ING and the industry;
- Develop and maintain policies, ensuring alignment with external regulations.
- Monitor and challenge the implementation of controls, processes, and remediation plans;
- Perform and contribute to independent emerging risk assessments and control effectiveness reviews;
- Advise senior management and guide 1LoD on technology risks, regulatory expectations and best practices;
- Contribute to the challenging the definition and periodic reporting of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs);
- Train and mentor junior team members and support NFR teams in thematic deep-dives and oversight activities;
- Stay up to date with emerging threats, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
- Contributing to the identification and assessment of risks from emerging technologies;
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of risk frameworks, policies and controls and ensure regulatory alignment;
- Developing and performing independent risk assessments and control reviews;
- Monitoring and challenging the implementation of risk controls and remediation plans;
- Advising senior management and 1LoD on risk mitigation strategies;
- Supporting NFR teams with deep-dives and reporting;
- Support junior team members and sharing expertise;
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry bodies.
- University/Post Graduate (Master’s) Degree, eg Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent;
- 7+ years’ experience in assessing, adopting, and managing emerging technologies and associated risks;
- Good understanding of emerging technologies such as AI (GenAI, Agentic AI), Quantum Computing, Blockchain, Digital Trust Frameworks;
- Expertise in security detection and response, vulnerability management, datacenter management, and networks;
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., DORA, EBA, MARisk).
