Tech Lead, Engineering

The Tech Lead, Engineering will drive the architecture, design, and execution of complex backend and data systems, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and performant under real-world conditions. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, guiding teams to deliver solutions that directly impact business outcomes. The Tech Lead will influence decisions across systems and data layers, prioritize high-impact problems, and align technical execution with product and organizational goals. You will lead by influence, mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and ensuring excellence in software design and operations. Remote work and cross-functional collaboration with globally distributed teams are key aspects of this role, providing opportunities to shape critical systems that serve millions of users worldwide.

Accountabilities

• Identify and prioritise high-impact technical and product problems, translating business objectives into technical solutions.
• Design, guide, and own architecture for backend, database, and distributed systems to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
• Lead execution through other engineers, providing mentorship, delegation, and alignment across teams.
• Partner with Product and business stakeholders to ensure technical work drives measurable business outcomes.
• Establish standards for system performance, database optimisation, concurrency control, and data layer trade-offs.
• Drive consistency, quality, and operational excellence in development practices while fostering innovation.
• Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  
  

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with deep expertise in relational databases (SQL) and distributed systems.
• Proven experience in system architecture, backend design, Node.js and TypeScript, and scalable service-oriented solutions.
• Strong understanding of queues, message brokers, microservices, load balancing, and end-to-end system design.
• Demonstrated ability to reason about performance, concurrency, transactions, and indexing strategies.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, driving alignment, and delivering outcomes through influence.
• Solid product and business acumen, able to make pragmatic technical trade-offs with measurable impact.
• Working knowledge of frontend frameworks (React) and integration implications preferred.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
• Comfortable working remotely in a distributed global team environment.
