Intermediate Network Admin
six-month contract
Overview
Our client is seeking an Intermediate Network Administrator to support and stabilize their existing network environment while contributing to documentation and potential future enhancements. This role will focus heavily on gaining visibility into current network topology, ensuring environments are up to date, and supporting planning efforts for upcoming network upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
Network Inventory & Documentation
- Inventory all network equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless equipment, and related infrastructure
- Document current network topology, architecture, and configurations
- Create and maintain clear, accurate network diagrams and technical documentation
- Ensure documentation aligns with best practices and is suitable for operational and planning purposes
Network Maintenance & Stability
- Review network equipment firmware and ensure devices are running supported and up-to-date versions
- Coordinate firmware upgrades following change management and maintenance procedures
- Monitor network health and assist with troubleshooting issues as they arise
- Ensure network configurations adhere to organizational standards and security requirements
Network Improvement & Upgrade Support
- Depending on experience, contribute to the design and planning of network upgrades or enhancements
- Provide input on improving performance, resiliency, scalability, and security
- Collaborate with internal IT teams, vendors, or consultants on proposed changes
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience as a Network Administrator or in a similar role
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, and wireless networking
- Hands-on experience with enterprise networking equipment (e.g., Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, or similar)
- Experience creating and maintaining network documentation and topology diagrams
- Familiarity with firmware management and network maintenance best practices
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting network refresh or upgrade initiatives
- Knowledge of network security concepts (firewalls, access controls, segmentation)
- Experience working in structured IT environments with change management processes
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, Network+, or equivalent) are an asset
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with broader IT teams
- Comfortable working in a contract environment with defined deliverables
