Back End Software Engineer (Java, Spring Boot, Microservices)

A global transformation consultancy is seeking a Back End Software Engineer to join its growing digital engineering team. You will work on complex, enterprise-scale transformation programmes, designing and delivering robust, cloud-native solutions for high-profile clients across multiple sectors.

The Role

You will design and build scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot, contributing to modern, API-led architectures deployed in cloud environments. Working within agile, multidisciplinary teams, you will combine technical excellence with a strong understanding of business outcomes.

Exposure to a broad technology stack is expected, including RESTful services, containerisation and modern DevOps practices. There is opportunity to contribute across the full software lifecycle, from solution design through to deployment and optimisation.

Required Experience

• Strong experience building microservices with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience with Git and online repositories such as GitHub or GitLab
• Docker and container orchestration
• CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab or Jenkins
• Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Experience working in agile delivery teams

Desirable

• Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
• NoSQL databases, ideally MongoDB, or SQL databases such as Postgres
• Understanding of modern web standards and accessibility
• Experience with C# microservices
• Exposure to LLM integrations or AI tooling
• Experience with GOV.UK
