Backend Developer (Mid-Level)

Location: Fully Remote

Rate: €200–€320 per day DOE

Overview

We are looking for a Mid-Level Backend Developer to join a high-performing engineering team working on scalable, high-traffic systems. You will play a key role in building and maintaining robust backend services, contributing to architectural decisions, and improving existing platforms.

This role requires strong PHP and Laravel experience, along with a solid understanding of modern backend principles, distributed systems, and clean architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems

• Build and maintain RESTful APIs connecting frontend applications, databases, and third-party services

• Develop backend services using PHP and Laravel within modern architectures

• Apply clean architecture principles, SOLID practices, and maintain high code quality

• Work with relational and non-relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis

• Contribute to microservices-based systems using Docker and containerised environments

• Refactor and improve legacy codebases for performance and maintainability

• Implement unit and integration testing to ensure reliability

• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices

Requirements

• 4+ years of backend development experience with strong PHP and Laravel expertise

• Experience building and scaling applications in high-traffic environments

• Strong understanding of clean architecture, DDD, and SOLID principles

• Experience working with microservices and distributed systems

• Hands-on experience with Docker and modern development workflows

• Strong knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL

• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Redis, MongoDB, or Elasticsearch

• Familiarity with message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Kafka

• Experience with testing practices such as TDD and unit testing

• Strong experience with Git and version control workflows

• Experience working with Composer and PHP tooling (PHPStan, PHPMD)

Nice to Have

• Experience working with AI tools or building AI-driven features

• Exposure to CQRS patterns

• Experience integrating with complex third-party APIs

Communication Requirements

• Conversational Spanish required

• Intermediate English required
