Mid-level Software Engineer

IRON sheep TECH is working closely with a successful and rapidly growing Australian social gaming company, VGW. Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) is an interactive entertainment company, harnessing technology and creativity to deliver world-class, free-to-play online social games.

The JOB

We are looking for a Software Engineer with strong experience in TypeScript and Node.js, and exposure to React, to join a collaborative engineering team. You will be building, shipping, and running your own solutions, working on distributed systems designed for performance, scalability, and reliability.

You will be part of a team that values doing things the right way over quick fixes, with ownership at the core of everything—from development to deployment and beyond.

Required skills:

• At least 4 years of experience in software engineering;
• Strong knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js, with exposure to React;
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS);
• Experience working with PostgreSQL;
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment;
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and high-load architectures.

Key responsibilities:

• Building and delivering high-quality product features within a collaborative team;
• Writing clean, maintainable, and secure code following best practices;
• Participating in agile processes including sprint planning, estimations, stand-ups, and reviews;
• Applying continuous delivery practices, including automated testing and well-structured pull requests;
• Ensuring high standards of performance, reliability, and security;
• Contributing to technical design, architecture discussions, and continuous engineering improvements;
• Troubleshooting performance issues and optimizing backend systems;
• Mentoring team members and collaborating effectively across teams.

The work will be in flexible hours, in the European time zone, with synchronization with Australia, which will also take place in our time zone.
