🚀 Position: UX Designer (Game development) – NeoRonin Interactive
📍 Location: Remote Europe
⏰ Contract Type: Full-Time
💰 Salary: Based on experience
We are currently developing an operational and tactical RTS set in a stylized vision of modern warfare, blending realistic systems with bold design choices. To help us bring this to life, we are looking for a UX Designer who can bring clarity to complex gameplay systems and make deep, layered mechanics feel intuitive for players. This role is ideal for someone who puts experience design at the center of every decision, collaborates across disciplines, and understands that a seamless player journey starts long before anything gets visually polished.
Responsibilities
- Lead the player experience: clarity, usability, and decision-making across complex combat and simulation systems.
- Map end-to-end player flows and interaction models that make deep systems learnable.
- Turn complex mechanics into structured, usable experiences that reduce cognitive load without losing depth.
- Build wireframes, prototypes, and interaction models before anything gets visually polished.
- Run user research, playtesting, and usability testing and turn findings into meaningful improvements.
- Work with Game Designers to keep UX aligned with gameplay goals, player motivations, and feedback loops.
- Partner with UI Programmers in Unreal Engine to ensure UX intent carries through to implementation.
- Own the UX frameworks, interaction patterns, and documentation that keep the product consistent.
- Use data, observation, and feedback to continuously improve player experience and onboarding.
- Step into UI during hands-on polish phases. Punctual, not structural.
How the Role Works
- You will be the sole UX specialist on the team, working closely with the Game Director and Lead Game Designer. The project is in early development, with external checkpoints that make structured UX thinking important from day one. Your focus is on understanding game systems and player intent deeply enough to solve real design problems, not just designing interfaces around them. You prototype, test with stakeholders, and iterate based on what you observe players actually do.
Requirements
- 4+ years in UX or UX/UI within game development.
- Portfolio that demonstrates UX thinking and problem-solving, not just visual output.
- Strong focus on usability: making complex systems feel intuitive and accessible is central to this role.
- Experience designing for complex systems: strategy, simulation, management, or similar.
- Deep knowledge of games in these genres counts as much as direct design experience.
- Solid understanding of cognitive load, player psychology, and accessibility.
- Hands-on experience with user research.
- Comfortable running playtesting sessions.
- Experience with usability validation and turning results into actionable improvements.
- Understanding of different player profiles and how to design for them.
- Familiarity with RTS games and the ability to apply that knowledge to UX decisions.
- Proficient in Figma, Adobe XD, or equivalent.
- Able to produce clear wireframes and flows before visual polish.
- Comfortable working with programmers and understanding implementation constraints.
- UI skills: layout, hierarchy, readability, with a UX-first approach.
- Experienced working remotely and asynchronously, keeping work moving and ideas clear without relying on real-time communication.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
What We Value
- Ability to simplify complexity without losing depth.
- Structured thinking and a systems-level mindset.
- Clear communication of ideas, decisions, and trade-offs.
- Attention to detail in interaction design and player feedback.
- Proactivity in identifying UX issues and proposing solutions.
- Comfortable working at pace, iteratively, and remotely.
Application Process
The selection process consists of two interview stages:
1. Personal Interview – To evaluate your motivation, profile, and soft skills, and to
introduce you to our project.
2. Technical Interview – To assess your UX expertise and discuss the design
challenges of the role.
If you’re excited to design the strategic interface of our combat simulation experience, send your
portfolio and CV to [email protected] with the subject: “UX Designer”.
Note: Applications sent via LinkedIn may not be considered.
Join us on this long-term journey and help us create unique and inspiring universes! 🚀
