Role: Senior Java Developer (Kafka) (Contract)

Rate: €75/hour

Overview

We’re hiring a Senior Java Developer to support a Fraud Management domain. This is a hands-on contract role focused on building near real-time data pipelines and backend services in a high-impact banking environment.

You’ll work within a cross-functional scrum team, contributing to both design and delivery of scalable, event-driven systems. The role suits someone comfortable working with high-throughput data, distributed systems, and performance-critical applications.

You’ll collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable, production-ready solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance backend systems using Java and Spring Boot

• Develop near real-time data pipelines using Kafka and event-driven architecture

• Contribute to solution design with a focus on scalability, resilience, and maintainability

• Analyse, profile, and optimise application and system performance

• Implement microservices and integration patterns across distributed systems

• Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to clarify and refine requirements

• Work closely with other engineers to deliver robust, production-grade solutions

• Document system design and ensure maintainability of applications

• Maintain high code quality through reviews and best practices

Requirements

• 5+ years Java development experience in production environments

• Strong experience with Spring Boot, Kafka, and REST/SOAP web services

• Proven experience building microservices and distributed systems

• Solid experience with SQL and relational databases (Oracle or similar)

• Experience with performance analysis, profiling, and optimisation

• Understanding of event-driven architecture and integration patterns

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• Strong communication skills with ability to work in cross-functional teams

• Fluent English and Finnish

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes and containerised environments

• Exposure to AWS services such as Lambda

• Knowledge of NoSQL databases such as Redis

• Familiarity with Hadoop or data platform ecosystems

• Experience using AI tools in a professional environment
