Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking engineers with a consultant mindset who prioritize understanding business goals and model over simply closing tickets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Strategize & Own Complex Domains: Think beyond basic requirements to understand the "why." You will collaborate directly with stakeholders to translate high-level ideas into scalable designs, taking end-to-end ownership of systems that power nationwide logistics, complex order routing, and real-time inventory synchronization (10M+ updates/day).
• Leverage AI & Adapt Quickly: Use cutting-edge AI tools to accelerate code generation—applying your expert judgment to review, refine, and integrate it into our microservices. • Experience: 5+ years building and operating scalable, distributed production backend systems.
• Consultant Mindset & Communication: Fluent English speaker capable of bridging the gap between business strategy and technical execution, including leading partner calls.
• Engineering Fundamentals & AI Native: Strong grasp of concurrency, design patterns, and distributed systems, coupled with an eagerness to use AI to accelerate development.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

1. System Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Design & Architect: Build distributed systems for high-volume operations, defining clear service boundaries and event contracts.
• Technical Leadership: Lead architectural discussions, evaluate trade-offs (scalability, reliability, latency, cost), and review peer proposals to provide expert guidance.

2. Microservices Architecture & Backend Engineering

• End-to-End Ownership: Design, implement, and deploy scalable, domain-driven backend services in Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.x.
• High-Throughput Communication: Build APIs via REST and gRPC, and implement resilient event-driven workflows using Kafka (producers, consumers, retries, DLQs, outbox pattern).

3. Supplier, Carrier & Marketplace Integrations

• Integration Development: Build and own end-to-end external APIs (supplier feeds, orders, tracking, inventory), handling authentication, mapping, performance tuning, and monitoring.
• Partner Collaboration: Translate business requirements into technical designs and lead technical discussions with external partners and platform providers.

4. Data & Storage

• Database Optimization: Design relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (ScyllaDB) schemas, write efficient queries, and profile performance.
• Caching: Implement effective caching strategies using Redis/Valkey.

5. Performance, Scalability & Reliability

• System Resilience: Optimize throughput in high-traffic scenarios and improve reliability using circuit breakers, idempotency, distributed locks, and long-running workflows.
• Incident Management: Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems to drive continuous system improvement.

6. Observability & DevOps Collaboration

• Observability & Deployment: Implement comprehensive logging and monitoring (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and collaborate with DevOps on AWS EKS deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and runtime management.

7. Code Quality, Collaboration & Documentation

• Engineering Excellence & AI Adoption: Write well-tested code, establish reusable frameworks, and champion AI-assisted development best practices for security and maintainability.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate goals into actionable technical plans, drive execution, and propose long-term architectural improvements.
• Communication & Documentation: Maintain clear communication across all channels and comprehensively document APIs, workflows, and architectural decisions.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Java (or other JVM languages), cloud/container platforms (AWS/EKS, Docker/Kubernetes), and high-volume data pipelines or event-driven sagas.

Compensation package starts at 85k EUR / year and includes paid vacation days.
