Junior BI & Automation Engineer - Selfnamed.com

We're building the platform behind a global on-demand skincare brand - helping entrepreneurs across Europe and the US launch, manufacture, and fulfill their own product lines. We're a small, senior team and we're scaling fast. Our data and automation infrastructure needs to keep pace, and so does our team.

We're not looking for a report-runner. We're looking for someone who asks why the number looks like that, spots the workflow that nobody else has bothered to fix, and ships the automation before being asked.

At Selfnamed, we call this a BI & Automation Engineer - someone who connects raw data to real decisions, and connects broken processes to working ones. This is an entry-level role, but ownership is not optional here.

How we work

• You work directly with the CEO, COO, CFO, and business stakeholders - no layers, no ticket queues
• You propose what to build next based on what you observe in the data and the operations
• We prototype early, demo what we've built, and adjust quickly
• Everyone is expected to document what they build - reports, logic, workflows, all of it
• You'll work across finance, operations, sales, and marketing - not just one team
• Hybrid format - 2 days in office (Mārupe), 3 remote.

You don't need to know all of this on day one. You do need to want to learn it.

• BI & Reporting: Metabase (self-hosted), Power BI
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL
• Automation: n8n (self-hosted)
• AI Tools: Claude Code (Teams), Claude Cowork, GitHub Copilot
• Scripting: TypeScript, Python
• Collaboration: Google Workspace
• Infrastructure: AWS, Cloudflare, Hetzner (Linux)

 What you'll own

• Dashboards and reports in Metabase and Power BI that teams actually use to make decisions
• SQL queries against PostgreSQL and MySQL - the kind that explain what's happening, not just what happened
• Automation workflows in n8n that remove friction from daily operations in fulfilment, sales, and beyond
• AI-powered tooling built with Claude Cowork and Claude Code - AI agent skills and practical tools for real business problems
• Your own technical proposals: you identify the need, scope the solution, and deliver it
• Documentation that makes your work maintainable by the next person, including you in six months

What we're looking for

• Basic SQL - you can write SELECT queries with JOINs, filters, and aggregations, and you want to go further
• Familiarity with TypeScript or Python - not mastery, but enough to read, write, and debug
• Comfort with data - you find patterns interesting, not overwhelming
• Strong analytical thinking and a low tolerance for ambiguity
• Clear written and spoken communication in both Latvian and English - async clarity matters here
• Self-direction - you can navigate an open-ended problem and know when to ask for help

Nice to have:

• Any BI tool experience - Metabase, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar
• Exposure to workflow automation - n8n, Zapier, Make, or similar
• Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON data structures
• Interest in AI tools and large language models - we use them and value people who use them effectively
• Any version control experience (Git)
• Background in e-commerce, finance or fulfilment is a plus
