Cyber Security Engineer

We are partnering up with a large essential services department, seeking a Cyber Security Engineer for Cloud Migration. You will support the secure transition and migration activities across hybrid and Azure cloud environments within a large-scale government ICT program.

This role focuses on cyber security risk, assurance, and architecture reviews to ensure systems are securely designed and transitioned in line with Queensland Government security frameworks.

You will work across project and technical teams to embed security-by-design, assess risk, and uplift security controls across cloud and identity platforms.
Key Responsibilities

• Conduct threat modelling, security risk assessments, and security impact assessments across Azure and hybrid environments
• Identify, assess, and document security risks, vulnerabilities, and control gaps during migration activities
• Develop risk treatment plans aligned to IS18, QGEA, and ISO 27001 frameworks
• Provide security assurance and advisory input to project stakeholders and senior leadership
• Review solution designs to ensure security-by-design principles are applied
• Support SIEM/SOC integration and uplift (Microsoft Sentinel preferred)
• Contribute to IAM improvements, particularly Azure AD / Entra ID
• Support vulnerability management and penetration testing activities
• Maintain risk registers, audit documentation, and reporting artefacts
• Collaborate with project, operations, and vendor teams to ensure secure delivery outcomes

Skills & Experience

• Cyber Security Engineer, Security Consultant, or Security Architect background
• Strong experience in cloud or hybrid environments (Azure preferred)
• Hands-on experience with security risk, threat modelling, and assurance activities
• SIEM platforms (Microsoft Sentinel highly desirable) IAM (Azure AD / Entra ID)
• Familiarity with security frameworks (IS18, QGEA, ISO 27001, or NIST)
• Experience working in complex, regulated or government environments

Desirable

• Azure security tooling (Defender for Cloud, Sentinel)
• AWS exposure in hybrid environments
• Network security technologies (Palo Alto, Cisco, Checkpoint)
• Vulnerability management and modern authentication experience
