WHAT WE DO

We are set up to provide our customers with end-to-end support in the process of developing software solutions:

• Business need analysis, design of functional and non-functional requirements, system analysis, support for business transformation and IT/business consultancy;
• User interface and experience design and development for mobile and desktop applications;
• Front and back-end development in a wide range of technologies: Java, .NET, Ruby, GoLang, Oracle, Python.
• Complete Data Warehouse solutions from architecture, design and implementation using mainly Vertica, Oracle and Microsoft platforms.
• Avalanche has been the central counterparty for multiple major banking projects in the Scandinavia and Baltics, in areas such as lending automation, regulatory reporting and calculations, integrations, governance, risk and compliance, Basel II/III, Stress Testing, AML/KYC.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

SENIOR JAVA BACKEND DEVELOPER

Enterprise Banking Project

Domain: Technology/Transactions

Location: Baltics preferred, European Economic Area as a secondary option

Work type: Hybrid/Remote with occasional not being afraid office visits, paid business trip if to another country. Once per month on average.

Duration: Long-term assignment with potential prolongation, depending on business demands

Seniority: Senior Top Notch (7+ years fluent for key must have skills with must have ability to take ownership , technically lead, mentor less senior engineers)

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and evolution of enterprise‑grade backend solutions. This is a hands‑on engineering role where you will work on building and improving Java‑based microservices and APIs in a cloud‑native environment. You will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and product stakeholders, apply modern Java and backend development practices, and help ensure our systems are scalable, secure, and reliable. As part of a team shaping core platforms used across the Pan‑Baltic organization, you will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions while continuously developing your skills in a modern, AWS‑based ecosystem.

DO YOU HAVE (MUST-HAVE SKILLS)...

• Practical experience building backend services using Spring Boot (7+ proven practical work years)
• Strong practical proven hands on experience with Java (preferably Java 17+ / Java 21), including modern language features
• Strong practical proven hands on experience with RESTful API design, implementation, and integration
• Strong practical proven hands on experience applying clean code principles, writing maintainable code, and implementing automated tests
• Strong practical proven hands on experience with software design principles such as SOLID, KISS, and YAGNI
• Strong practical proven hands on experience working in cloud-based or distributed systems, with AWS in particular
• Strong practical proven hands on experience with AWS services such as Lambda (Java runtime), API Gateway, CloudWatch etc.
• Strong practical proven hands on experience with CI/CD practices and the explicit proficiency with monitoring and operational stability techniques
• Very mature and fluent English is required in spoken and written communication due to working on the Pan-Baltic level.

BONUS SKILLS...

• Experience in banking, finance, or other regulated environments is a strong advantage
• Experience with Quarkus will be considered as an advantage
