Java Software Engineer – High‑Tech Defence Systems

Alten Nederland is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join one of our multidisciplinary Agile/Scrum development teams. You will contribute to a large, mission‑critical defence system that integrates multiple subsystems into a unified command and control environment. Our teams take full ownership of the development lifecycle: from requirements analysis and architecture to implementation, testing, validation, and product demonstrations.

About the Role

As a Medior or Senior Software Engineer, you will work closely with fellow engineers across your Agile team and other teams within the same sub‑domain. You will be responsible for implementing designs and requirements defined by System Engineers and Software Architects, while ensuring that security, safety, and high‑quality standards are consistently met.

Your work includes:

• Designing and implementing new features in Java
• Collaborating with system engineers, architects, and testers
• Ensuring code quality, security, and maintainability
• Contributing to continuous integration and delivery pipelines
• Participating in design sessions, reviews, and demonstrations

The software environment is modern, high‑tech, and built primarily in Java and C++, running on Linux‑based platforms.

• Unit testing (JUnit), test automation, Cucumber

We Are Looking For Someone Who

• Is passionate about technology
• Works well in a team environment
• Wants to contribute to a safer and more secure society
• Holds at least a Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related field
• Has strong affinity and talent for Java
• Has at least 5 years of recent, relevant experience in Java development
• Is available to work on‑site at least 3 days per week
• Speaks Dutch or English (Dutch is not mandatory)
