Network Engineer

We're hiring on behalf of a Haystack partner!

The Role

• Support strategic planning and personnel administration for the Operations Section, collaborating with Service Delivery, Architecture, and Security teams.

• Mentor network operations engineers, guiding them in the practical application of current and emerging technologies, agile IT, ITIL, and continuous improvement practices.

• Act as "queue managers" during shift lead duties, ensuring efficient assignment and timely resolution of escalated issues to meet SLAs.

• Maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices and systems, ensuring high availability and end-to-end visibility using tools like Grafana, Cisco StealthWatch, and PerfSonar.

• Provide maintenance and patching for DWDM circuits (fiber rings) to ensure backbone redundancy and meet stringent network availability service levels.

• Collaborate with the Network Architecture team to identify and recommend Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions for improved automation and zero-touch deployments.

What You'll Need

• High School diploma with either CCIE (Routing and Switching) certification and 5 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience, OR CCNP (Routing & Switching/Data Center) certification and 10 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience.

• Proven experience mentoring network operations engineers on technology application, agile IT, and ITIL practices.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

• Strong understanding of network infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

• Experience with DWDM circuits, Cisco-based wireless LANs, and SCADA network optimization is advantageous.
