Head of Software Engineering (60-100%)

As Head of Software Engineering, you will take full ownership for our software development lifecycle, technical architecture, and team performance. You will own the delivery of enterprise-grade SaMD platform, transforming business objectives into robust, compliant, and scalable cloud-native solutions.

This is a mission-critical, hands-on leadership role. We are looking for a builder who leads by doing. You will define the technical vision, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain hands-on involvement to troubleshoot critical blockers and mentor the team. You will serve as the bridge between the C-suite and the engineering team, ensuring clear execution, translating vision into predictable delivery, and ensuring complete trust in the technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership
• Define and execute the product roadmap in close collaboration with leadership and product teams.
• Own the expansion of the product portfolio by developing enterprise-oriented solutions.
• Drive departmental growth, business focus, and operational execution.
• Act as a strategic bridge between C-level vision and tactical delivery, ensuring team alignment, and accelerating innovation.
• Communicate progress, risks, and key technical decisions clearly to C-level stakeholders.
• Coordinate across AI research, clinical, and regulatory functions to align priorities, timelines, and deliverables.

• Product & Engineering Execution
• Lead product-aligned engineering execution across AI/ML, cloud, backend, and frontend teams.
• Oversee system architecture and software development for AI-driven, cloud-based SaMD products, including DevOps and AI/ML model integration.
• Leverage domain expertise in radiology or image processing to enhance product capabilities.
• Own the scalability, security, and performance of the SaaS platform.
• Lead and scale the software engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, process maturity, and quality standards.
• Mentor and develop team members to strengthen their technical and professional skill sets.

• Governance & Quality Assurance
• Ensure all development practices strictly adhere to regulatory and quality requirements (MDR, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, ISO 27001, and FDA standards).
• Maintain robust security and data protection frameworks for sensitive medical data.
• Balance the speed of innovation with the requirements of safety, quality, and traceability.

Candidate Profile

• Experience & Leadership
• Background in software engineering, computer science, or similar.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 8+ years in a technical leadership or management role, overseeing cross-functional teams (backend, frontend, cloud, and AI/ML).
• Proven track record of delivering complex, production-grade software products in fast-paced environments.
• Demonstrated success leading and mentoring high-performing teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, code quality, and engineering rigor.
• Strong ability to bridge the gap between C-level strategy and tactical execution, driving innovation while balancing architectural vision with hands-on problem-solving.

• Technical Domain Expertise
• Deep hands-on experience building Python-based applications and maintaining production-grade codebases.
• Expertise in architecting and operating secure, scalable, cloud-native SaaS platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including multi-tenant architectures and operational reliability.
• Advanced background integrating AI/ML components into production workflows, with specific experience in inference pipelines and MLOps practices.
• Strong understanding of modern DevOps: CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), observability, and incident response.

• Regulatory & Domain Knowledge
• Significant experience working within SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) development environments, collaborating with QA/RA to ensure design control, risk management, and regulatory compliance (MDR, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, high-quality development processes.
• Highly desirable: Domain expertise in medical imaging, radiology software, or DICOM workflows.

• Communication & Soft Skills
• Excellent communication skills with a proven history of partnering effectively with product managers, clinical experts, and executive stakeholders.
• Expert at driving alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, effectively navigating technical and organizational pressure to keep projects moving forward without compromising on quality or speed.
• Thrives in high-ownership environments; proactive in identifying and resolving operational hurdles.
